Empowering Lives Guardianship Services LLC (ELGS) hires a variety of individuals to work with those we represent. We currently have offices in Winston-Salem and Raleigh. We have individuals residing in the following North Carolina counties: Alamance, Burke, Caswell, Chatham, Davie, Durham, Forsyth, Granville, Greene, Guilford, Harnett, Hoke, Iredell, Lee, McDowell, Randolph, Rockingham, Sampson, Stokes, Surry, Wake, Wilkes and Yadkin. What is Adult Guardianship? Under NC General Statute 35A, an adult can be adjudicated incompetent and appointed a guardian of the person, guardian of the estate or general guardian. A guardian is charged by the NC Courts to work with and/or on behalf of an individiual. ELGS only accepts appointments of guardian of the person. Generally speaking, per the appointment letter, the guardian of the person is fully authorized and entitled under the laws of North Carolina to have the custody, care and control of the ward, and has no authority to receive, manage or administer property, estate or business affairs of the ward. Generally speaking was used because a guardianship can also be limited and other duties can be added or removed at the per the judgement of the court.
Guardian Representative: This is the highest level of employement with ELGS. These individuals make day to day decision with and on behalf of individuals the courts have placed in our trust. These decisions vary from where to live, who to associate with, to end of life decisions. Minimum Qualifications for this position is in accordance with the MH/IDD/SAS definition of Qualified Professional (10A NCAC 27G .0104, 19). ELGS expands this definition to be applied to an employment candidate with the education and work history with adults diagnosed with dementia.
Visitation/Transportation Specialist: This is an as needed position with ELGS. This individual visits with individuals and completes a Visitation Questionnaire for each individual they meet with. This position does not make decisions for the individual and can only carry out those job duties assigned. Minimum Qualifications for this position is in accordance with the MH/IDD/SAS definition of Para Professional (10A NCAC 27G .0104, 15).
Administrative Support Specialist: This is a Winston-Salem based position that provides administrative and office support for the entie agency. This position includes but is not limited to the following duties: picking up and sorting mail, heavy use of the computer and Microsoft Office, organizing and tracking contract specific requirements, effective communication skills with staff and providers and various Human Resource responsibilities. Minimum Qualifications for this position is a High School Diploma or GED. Familiarity and comfort with computers and Microsoft Office (Word and Excel specifically). Good communication skills and a solution focused approach to problem solving.
